Long time resident of Shawnee OK, George Franklin Burton (Frank), 89, died May 1, 2022. Frank was born April 16, 1933 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Vera and Herbert Burton. Frank graduated from Oklahoma State University and received an honorable discharge from the United States Navy. He worked for many years at Tinker Air Force Base as a procurement specialist. Earlier in life, he was a member of the Appaloosa Association and the National Rifle Association. Frank loved to travel and enjoyed many years going to Colorado working to help preserve the history of the trains that ran through Durango and Silverton, CO. Frank was a life-time member of the 10th & Bell Church of Christ in Shawnee. He spoke often and fondly of his church family. He was a good friend, son, brother and uncle. He considered the children in his immediate family as his children. He asked about each one, what they were doing in school, work and “when are we getting together again”. Frank was preceded in death by his mother and father, Vera and Herbert Burton, sisters, Vatura Burton Gearing and JoAnn Burton Jones, brothers, D. B. Burton and William Burton. Surviving family include sisters-in-law, Sammye Burton (William) and Fran Burton (D. B.), nieces and nephews, Linda Burton Franklin, Bill Burton, Bob Burton, Cheryl Burton Cox, Jill Burton Pantallia, Dick Gearing, Sue Gearing and many other great nieces and nephews. A graveside ceremony will be Friday, May 6, 2:00 p.m. at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direct of Walker Funeral and Cremation Service.
