George Earl Kursar

George Earl Kursar, 71, of Shawnee, Oklahoma, passed from this life to the next on February 20, 2018 at his residence.George was born in Seminole, Oklahoma on March 15, 1946 to Dr. G.M. “Doc” and Mabel (Holman) Kursar. He graduated from Konawa High School and attended East Central University. He went on to manage Gibson’s Department Store in downtown Shawnee and later owned and operated Ol’ Shawnee Town Flea Market where he enjoyed visiting with his customers. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church where he served on various committees. He was an active member of the Elks Lodge in Shawnee and an avid golfer. George loved watching sports and was a lifelong OU fan. He enjoyed tending to his tomato plants, tinkering with electronics and spending time with his daughter and her family.George was preceded in death by his parents, Doc and Mabel Kursar.He is survived by his daughter Kellie Steele and her husband Kris of Shawnee; granddaughters Mackenzie and Madison Steele of Shawnee; sister Mary Ann Lockhart of Texas; brother Jerry Kursar of Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.A memorial service will take place on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the Walker Funeral Service Chapel.
