George Aaron Meneely died Sunday, December 17, 2017 at his home East of Shawnee, OK at the age of 81.He was born February 22, 1936, to Aaron Ralph and Ivy Kitty (Weir) Meneely at Forrest Township near Tecumseh in Pottawatomie County. He attended several elementary schools and graduated high school in 1953 at Prairie Valley School in Seminole County.After graduation he worked for farmers in the Econtuchka “river-bottom” area about 3 years. He worked with Stanley Sealock and Roy Grissom in the carpentry trade about 3 years. Carl Davis of Davis Poultry was his next employer, working about 38 years total, first at the Seminole Chicken Farm facility, where he was manager for several years before the farm closed. He went to work at the Davis Feed Mill on Highland Street in Shawnee, mixing and delivering custom feeds to farmers and ranchers through-out the state. During the years with Davis Poultry he was also a cattleman. After the feed mill closed in 1993, he worked for Pottawatomie District #1 for 8 years as a truck driver. He retired from Pott. County in 2003 from injuries sustained in a truck wreck in 2001.George married Rosa Annetta (Butts) on November 18, 1967 at Wallace Avenue Baptist Church. Fifty years of marriage was celebrated this November.George was an active member of Fairview Baptist Church since his youth. He was saved at the age of 10 and has walked with the Lord for 71 years.He is preceded in death by his parents, son Keith, daughter April and sister, Anna Lee Baker.Survivors include his wife, Rosa of the home, son Chris Meneely and Melanie Rinehart, son Andrew Meneely all of Shawnee, brother-in-laws Bill Butts of Luther, Paul Levin of Ellicott City, MD, sister and brother-in-law Myler and Mary Crooks, sister-in-law Verna Dean all of Shawnee and one aunt, Alveda Meneely of Napa, CA. Other relatives include many cousins, nieces and nephews, and lots of friends.Services are set for 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 21 at Walker Funeral Service Chapel, Shawnee, Oklahoma with Rev. Chuck Utsler of Pocasset, Oklahoma officiating and Rev. Richard Gay of Shawnee assisting. Burial will follow at Neal Cemetery, East of Shawnee.Memorials in lieu of flowers may be given to Fairview Baptist Church building fund at 45802 Hwy. 3E, Earlsboro, OK 74840.
