Glendon Ed Combs

Glendon Ed Combs was born in Seminole County, OK on January 8, 1924 to Ed and Bessie Combs. He married Mary Juanita Strickland June 6, 1946 in Norman, OK. They had one son Danny Combs on February 22, 1947.

He served in the Navy during World War II on the USS Rockingham and also in the Korean conflict. 

He retired from the Shawnee Fire Department where he served as the first Fire Marshall in Shawnee, OK. 

He also served as County Commissioner for District 3. 

He spent much of his life involved in numerous volunteer activities. He was Charter President of the Diamond K Kiwanis, received a National Community Service award from Chapter 2654 American Association of Retired Persons, member of the Silver Haired Legislature, served as director of United Way and COEDD (A Regional Council of Government), Cub Scoutmaster and Scout Merit Badge Master for 20 years and was a member of the Central Church of Christ where he was active in many areas of the church. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Juanita Combs, son Danny Combs, two brothers, William Kenneth Combs and Billy Joe Combs. 

He is survived by one sister, Patricia Copeland, sisters-in-law, Bertha Combs Akin, Sue Strickland, several nieces, nephews and several great, great-great and great-great-great nieces and nephews. 

Viewing will be held Monday, November 25, 2024 from noon to 6:00 pm at Walker Funeral Service. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Walker Funeral Chapel.
