Gloria L. Oliva

Gloria Lee (Rogers) Oliva, our precious mother, grandmother and great- grandmother, passed away on May 28, 2018 after a long illness. She was born on November 21, 1926 in Orange County, Texas, to Oscar Columbus Rogers, Sr. and Ruth Elizabeth Williams Rogers. She attended University High in Lincoln, Nebraska and later graduated from St. Anthony School of Nursing. She married Milo William Oliva on July 3, 1947. Gloria and Milo were long time members of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Shawnee, Oklahoma. She was a former Church Altar Guild Directress and Vestry member as well as former President of Shawnee Hospice. For many years, Gloria was active in the Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority. Before retiring to Shawnee, Gloria had a fulfilling career as a surgery and recovery nurse in Midwest City. She was an avid reader and enjoyed quilting and needlework. Her life, both professional and personally was built around her family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who lovingly called her YaYa.Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Milo, of 62 years, as well as her brother O.C. Rogers, Jr. and half-brother, Oscar Lee Rogers and son-in-law, Ron Sanders.She leaves behind her loving family including daughters Jan Sanders of Seminole, and Diana McCarthy and son-in-law John of Midwest City; her son Milo Bruce Oliva and his wife, Dr. JudyLee Oliva of Choctaw; half sister Esther Luna of Ocean Springs, Mississippi; her grandchildren and their spouses Christopher and Candice McCarthy, Jaesen and Michelle Sanders, Elizabeth and Kevin Kirk, and Meredith and Shane Hawk; her great-grandchildren Annalie and Olivia McCarthy, Malerie, Titus and Wyatt Hawk, Andrew and Ryan Kirk and Nolan Sanders. The family would like to thank the entire staff and administration at McLoud Nursing Center for their kind, professional and dedicated end of life care, and the staff at Walker Funeral Services in Shawnee.A Memorial Service will be held at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church on June 23, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at 501 N. Broadway, Shawnee, Oklahoma 74801. The Rev. Tom Dahlman and the Rev. Elizabeth Davis officiating with internment in the Emmanuel Columbarium. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Emmanuel Episcopal Church Stained Glass Restoration Project or the Emmanuel Altar Guild.
