Mr. Gibson was born on November 13, 1939 in the Bluff Community near Sallisaw, Oklahoma, to George Walter “Ted” Gibson and Iva Jewell Gibson (Rogers). He died on Wednesday October 2, 2024 in Shawnee.
Mr. Gibson was a retired federal and state law enforcement officer as well as a US Air Force Veteran. He held a BA from Upper Iowa University. While he held many professional honors he insisted that most important was his abiding faith and service as a Christian and Ordained Minister. He served as Elder at the Tenth and Shawnee Church of Christ and Aydelotte Church of Christ for more than 34 years.
He married Alice Gibson, the love of his life on October 1, 1965 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. He and his wife were transferred many times before returning to Oklahoma to raise their family.
Survivors include his wife, Alice Gibson, two sons, Jared and Kelly Gibson of Shawnee, Jason and Maria Gibson of Fairfax Virginia, and one daughter Jennifer Allison and her husband Scott Allison of Houston, Texas. Ten grandchildren, Sasha Norton, Justin Lee, Trent Lee, Stephanie Wilkinson, Kelsie Gibson, Kaitlynn Gibson, J.Paul Gibson, Gibson Allison, Alice Kate Allison, and Emilia Gibson. 16 great grandchildren and his beloved border collie George W.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers George Dalton, Bob, and Paul Gibson and sisters Freda Hight and Emma Ball.
Pallbearers include his sons Jared and Jason, son-in-law Scott, grandson J.Paul and great nephews Matthew and Jeremy Davis of Sallisaw. His beloved nephews and close friends will serve as honorary pallbearers including Dwight Davis, Randy Dickinson, Eric Talbot, Jerry Rogers, Larry Hight, Dwight Hight, Mark Hight, Keith Gibson, Greg Gibson, Ted Gibson, Roger Crisco, and Randy Chappa.
Funeral Services for Harold L. Gibson, 84, of Shawnee, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, October 11, 2024, at Aydelotte Church of Christ in Shawnee. Graveside services will follow at the Sallisaw Memorial Cemetery.
Viewing will be 10 AM to 6 PM at Walker Funeral Home Thursday, October 10, 2024 with the family present from 4 to 6 PM.
Arrangements are under the direction of Walker Funeral Service in Shawnee.
