Hugh Gibson, 88, of Shawnee, died Sunday, October 4, 2020 peacefully in his home with his family.
Services will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, October 10 in the chapel of Walker Funeral Service with Pastor Chris Griffith officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery with a military honor guard. Viewing will begin on Thursday, October 8. The family will be at the funeral home Friday night from 5-7 p.m. to receive friends and family.
Hugh was born on February 17, 1932 in Pontiac, Michigan to William and Thelma Gibson. He grew up in Michigan and graduated from Michigan Tech University. While attending college he met and married the love of his live, Shirley Simila, on June 12, 1954. They shared 62 years together. Hugh served in the army and was stationed in England during the Korean War. The Gibson family moved to Wisconsin, where Hugh worked for Allen Bradley. Work relocated them to Shawnee, where he has resided for the past 45 years. He worked for TDK in Shawnee until his retirement. Never able to sit still, he then worked with his son at Gibson Enterprises. He was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran church in Shawnee.
Hugh is preceded in death by his parents, William & Thelma Gibson; wife, Shirley Gibson; sister, Gloria Messina; and granddaughter, Deana Sherrill Duroy.
Those left to cherish his memory are his Daughter and son-in-law, Shelley and Clifford Hoelz of Phoenix, Arizona; Sons and daughters-in-law, Keith and Jolene Gibson of Meeker, Oklahoma; Scott and Donna Gibson of Independence, Missouri; 9 grandchildren and 2 step grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and 2 step great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren and 1 step great-great grandchild; Brothers and sisters-in-law, Dale and Roxie Gibson of Salem, Oregon; Terry and Joyce Gibson of Tulsa, Oklahoma; along with several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Hugh was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He traveled with family and enjoyed spending time with them as well as seeing the sights of the world. He was always ready to lend a hand to everyone that asked.
