Ida Ruth Suttle

Ida Ruth (Moore) Suttle (A.K.A. “IRS”) passed away on June 11th 2019 in Plano, Texas after a short illness. At her passing she was surrounded by her loving family, listening to Elvis Presley music. Ida Ruth recently said she would die at the age of 100 while riding in a red convertible with a married man at the hands of his jealous wife. Regrettably, she came up 17 years short and was forced to settle for a ride in a red ambulance with two married men and a stern hospital admitting nurse. Ida Ruth was born in Konawa, Oklahoma on March 26, 1936 to Grady and Maggie Moore. After her birth, her family moved to Louisiana where she lived on a large farm. On the farm, she loved spending time with the family's two Shetland ponies named Flopsy and Topsy who were unfortunately lost to another family in a card game. Later, the family moved to Shawnee, Oklahoma, where she lived and attended school, graduating from Shawnee High School in 1954. After graduation she worked for the Shawnee School district. Ida Ruth married Walker Suttle on January 15, 1955 and they were married for 61 years until Walker’s death in 2016. They soon had three sons and Ida Ruth became a busy homemaker. As the boys grew up they found they couldn't escape their mother’s attention. When the boys started school, she joined the school’s Parent Teacher Association and served as PTA President, later the boys joined the Cub Scouts and she became the Den Leader hosting the meetings at their house. Try as they might, the boys couldn’t elude her watchful eye. They even went somewhere they thought she would not follow - Church. And what did she do? She became a Sunday School Teacher at the First Christian Church for over 10 years. The boys suffered through a lifetime of having a loving mother.To pass the time while the boys were pretending to be at school, Ida Ruth worked for S & S Feed & Seed. Ida Ruth also busied herself with Bridge Club, Golf, bowling leagues, the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and the monthly Lake Shore Lodge Dance Club. When the boys finally escaped high school through social promotions, Ida Ruth started working for Project HEART. While she waited for her boys to pursue their careers and present her with grandchildren she lavished her affection and expert seamstress skills on her sister’s grandchildren. Doting on the four female nieces and showering them handmade dresses, gifts, and dress-up tea parties. She referred to the nieces simply as The Four M’s and they referred to her as Aunty Granny. Soon after, she was blessed with her own grandchildren where she again lavished them with handmade clothes and gifts. There was not a time anyone in the family can recall, when Ida Ruth wasn’t either planning or working on a new dress or suit, a painted shirt, a crocheted afghan or a knitted throw. She was as talented with her mind and hands and she was hard working.During her life, Ida Ruth was the happiest with her family and many friends at Lake Eufaula where she loved fishing, camping, fishing, boating, fishing and just relaxing while she fished. Ida Ruth is survived by her family: sister Yvonne (Moore) Oliver of Shawnee, OK; son Jeff and wife, Tina, along with grandson Matt Suttle and great-grandchildren, Madelynn and Brooklyn Suttle, and granddaughter Sara Murphy (husband Phillip) and a great-grandchildren Oliver and Millie Murphy; son Greg and wife Bonnie along with grandchildren Carly and Greyson Suttle and step-grandchildren Todd Skoruppa, and Sophie and Julia Schwarze; son Jon, along with grandchildren Andrea and Samantha Suttle; former daughters-in-laws Jeanne Walker and Pam Weiber Suttle; her eight year old “miracle surviving, cancer ridden” Yorkie Terrier named Boomer; and a frequent, almost daily gentleman caller, known as ‘‘Daddy Tim” (A.K.A. Tim Stephens). Ida Ruth was preceded in death by her mother and father, Grady and Maggie Moore, and sister Phyllis Davis. Her family and friends will miss her on a daily basis.
