James David "Dave" Bonner, resident of Shawnee, Oklahoma passed away on Tuesday, February 1, 2022. He was 80 years old. Dave was born in Goodwill, Louisiana on November 27, 1941 to his parents, James Wilbur Bonner and Julia Elnora Deer. He graduated from Bastrop High School in 1959 and attended Louisiana Tech from 1959-1960. After graduation he began working for Turpin's Lumberyard in Crossett, Arkansas until joining the Air Force in 1961. After completing his four years, he received an honorable discharge from the United States Air Force. Dave returned to manage Turpin's in Crossett, then eventually moved to Jonesboro, Arkansas with Wickes Lumber. Dave was active in the Jonesboro Jaycee's Chapter, serving as president from 1972-1973. Wickes transferred Dave to Ponca City, Oklahoma in 1973 to operate their store. Two years later, the family moved to Shawnee, Oklahoma and he went to work for Kersey Plywood in Paul's Valley. In 1977, Dave opened BMS - Building Material Salvage with locations in Shawnee and Ada. After 1990 Dave operated Bonner Construction of which one of his contracts was as an embedded contractor at Mobile Chemical/Exxon in Shawnee leading to many long lasting friendships. He later returned to the industry he loved and opened "We Might Have It" a retail salvage lumber store until his retirement in 2017. Dave married Nelda Elaine Hall on December 12, 1961 in Hamburg , Arkansas. Of this union three sons were born, David Bruce Bonner of Texas, Michael Keith Bonner of Oklahoma and Jeffery Stephen Bonner of Oklahoma. Later in life Dave married Barbara Ann Goodson in Shawnee, Oklahoma on October 9, 1993. They shared numerous family events and quality time at their cabin on Lake Eufaula. Dave was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife Barbara of Shawnee, siblings, Billy Edward Bonner of TX and Judy Bonner Prothro of AR, children, Bruce of TX, Keith and wife, Stacy of OK and Jeff of OK, grandchildren, Justin Alan Bonner of TX, Kristen Michele Bonner Curnutt of OK, Daniel James Bonner of TX, Erin Leigh Bonner of OK, Tyler Chance Bonner of TX, Logan Alyssa Bonner of TX, and Austin Steven Cole Bonner of OK, six great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, daughter, Denise Goodson Nash and husband, Kerrwyn of TX and son, Mark and Lynn Goodson of OK. A funeral ceremony for Dave will be held on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at 10 am at the Walker Funeral Chapel with military honors provided by the United States Air Force. Following the ceremony, Dave will be laid to rest at Resthaven Memorial Park in Shawnee. A family visitation will be held at Walker Funeral & Cremation Service on Tuesday evening from 5pm - 7pm.
