James Luther Givens was born November 4, 1931, to Luther Adolphus and Eulalia (Fitch) Givens of Chickasha, Okla. He passed from this life on January 18, 2022, at the age of 90. Jim's family moved to Anadarko, Okla., when he was three years old where he actively participated in Boy Scouts. He spent one summer delivering ice door-to-door for the Anadarko Ice Company. Jim was a member of the 1945 District Champion Warrior football team. He graduated from high school in 1949, and then attended the University of Oklahoma where he earned a bachelor of business administration degree in accounting and finance. Jim is a brother of the Sigma Chi fraternity. After serving during the Korean War in the U.S. Air Force Office of the Auditor General, he returned to OU for his MBA. In 1957, Jim began a 32-year career in the Planning and Economics Department of the Magnolia/Mobil Oil Corporation. He spent much of his working career in Texas, Colorado, Southern California and Alaska. The seven years before retirement were with Mobil Oil in Hamburg, West Germany. Jim and Patricia Ann Lamb grew up together in Anadarko during the 1930s and 1940s, forming lifelong friendships with many of their fellow classmates. On October 9, 1979, Jim married his Precious Pat in the Anadarko Methodist Church. The seven years living in Hamburg gave them opportunities to travel extensively throughout Europe, as well as Russia and Israel, and to explore the various local cultures. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and younger sister, Annette Marie, who died at age 15 months with whooping cough. Jim said Annette Marie would have been a lovely woman, like her mother. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann; two children, Laura Alison and James Deck Givens; three stepsons, Dennis Patrick and wife Linda, Scott William, and Timothy Michael Collins and wife Katherine; five grandchildren, Brad Collins and wife Christina, Emily Kell and husband Jay, Will Collins and wife Jeannette, Tanner Collins, and Kate Collins; and six great grandchildren, Emma, Andrew, Leo, Cashel, Eleanor and Josephine. Jim's funeral ceremony will be Friday, January 28, at 11 a.m. at the Walker Funeral Chapel in Shawnee, Okla., with family visitation from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on the same day. Interment will follow at Memory Lane Cemetery in Anadarko, Okla. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to the American Heart Association.
