James Hunter Sullivan, 91, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, October 24, 2017. James was born January 27, 1926 in Sulphur, OK to Andrew Hunter and Dorothy (Harke) Sullivan. James passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family. The family had a private burial service. A Memorial service will be held at a later date for James at First Baptist Church, Shawnee with Dr. John Calmes officiating. James grew up and attended school in Sulphur. While living in Sulphur he met his childhood sweetheart before entering in the US Army to fight WWII. James served in the 3rd Army 11th Battalion, deployed in the European theater and the battlefields in France. In 2014 he was recognized as a surviving WWII veteran and had the honor of being the Grand Marshall of the Parade. He is listed in the Veteran Memorial Garden Park. Following the war, he returned to Oklahoma, married Billie Jane Bradshaw before moving to Shawnee to attend Oklahoma Baptist University. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Business in 1951. James was gifted with a wonderful singing voice. While at OBU he sang with the Varsity Four Quartet. In 1951 he began a long career at Tinker Air Force Base and retired from Tinker in 1982. James served on the Bison Federal Credit Union board of Directors. James was an active member and Deacon at First Baptist Church. Over the years he served on many of the committees including the finance committee. He was also an active choir member of the church. He continued singing and leading singing at the local nursing homes. James is preceded in death by his parents Andrew Hunter Sullivan and Dorothy Harke Sullivan. He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Billie Jane, three loving daughters: Pamela Jane Shawn, Margo Louise Henderson (Roger), Jilene Ruth Wade (Jeff “Rocky”), five granddaughters: Krista Daniel, Karla Cantrell (Pete), Laura Doe (Brian), Jennifer Zwirn (Wesley), Lisa Solberg (Josh), and 13 great-grandchildren.
