Janice Lynn (Hanson) Nagle from Meeker, OK went home to Jesus with her son and daughter standing by her side holding her hands on September 9, 2023. She fought a tough battle against Frontotemporal Dementia and Primary Progressive Speech Aphasia for several years. Jan was born on March 25, 1945, in Eau Claire, WI to Arnie & Reta Hanson. She was the third child of Arnie and Reta’s following her big brothers James and Richard.
She attended Memorial High School in Eau Claire graduating in 1963. After high school Jan continued her education at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire, where she graduated in 1968. After a few years working at Wisconsin DVR Jan and her family moved to Meeker, OK in 1984. She worked for Project Heart in Chandler, Chandler Public Schools, Meeker Public Schools and ended up finishing her career at Shawnee High School teaching special education. She would eventually continue her education at the University of Central Oklahoma where she received her Master’s degree in education.
Following one of her passions in life, Jan taught special needs students using art as a driving force at Shawnee High School. She also coached golf for several years and was very involved with Special Olympics. Jan retired in 2009 from teaching but never really retired from education as she continued to be an instrumental leader in so many of our lives.
Jan had many interests in life! She absolutely adored horses and had owned and showed them for as many years as we can remember. She qualified for the 1997 AQHA World Quarter Horse Show aboard “Tender Skip O’lena” or Skippy to us. After retiring, she could be found on the Shawnee Elks Golf course on a regular basis, going on adventures, planting flowers or chasing her grandkids around. She continued inspiring her grandchildren through art where she would spend unimaginable amounts time drawing and water coloring with them.
She was preceded in death by her late husband William T Nagle, her mother and father, Brother James A. Hanson, Stepson Mike Nagle, Grandson Steven Vasquez, Great Great Neice Brayvin Bliss, Aunts, Uncles and Friends.
