Jeannie "Jean" Vandenburg

Jean Vandenburg, 88, passed away Friday, June 22, 2023 in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

Jeannie (Jean) Vandenburg was born in Atoka Oklahoma on March 4, 1935 to parents Carl and Thelma Bonham.  Jean enjoyed playing basketball at Atoka High School.  Jean was married 63 years to Eddie Vandenburg and they had five children.  During Eddie’s service in the Army, they lived in multiple locations and made numerous friends.  After the years of service, the family moved to Moore, Oklahoma and later to an acreage near Sparks, Oklahoma.

Jean loved country living.  She enjoyed having animals of many varieties.  Jean loved music, and she loved to sing.  She and Eddie performed professionally in bands while living in Germany and Washington state.  During retirement, the couple would occasionally perform at event centers in Oklahoma communities.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Carl Bonham and Thelma (Bonham) Cooper, her husband Eddie Vandenburg, Sr., sister Jackie Hand, daughter Karron Combs, and grandson Arron Combs.

Jean is survived by her daughters Carla Brooks of Oklahoma City, Vickie Mortensen and her husband John Mortensen of Royal Oaks MI., Becky Barrington and her husband Dave Barrington of Italy TX, and son Eddie Vandenburg, Jr. of Rawlins WY and his wife Chandi Vandenburg of Ogden UT.

Jean is also survived by seven grandchildren:  Riley Combs, John Barrington, Travis Barrington, Kristen (Mortensen) Perkins, Julia Mortensen, Rayah Vandenburg and Reagan Vandenburg, eight great grand-children and two great-great-grandchildren.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at Walker Funeral & Cremation Service in Shawnee, OK the morning of July 3, 2023 from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm . Interment will be at 2:00 pm at White Dove Cemetery.
