On December 3, 2023 Jenny Kay Nelson passed away at home in Castle Rock, Colorado at the age of 83, surrounded by family. She is survived by her three children, Stephanie Nelson Walsh and her husband Chad of Bakersfield, California, Denise Plante and her husband Mike of Castle Rock, Colorado, Neil Nelson and his wife Roxanne of Garden City, Missouri. She is also survived by her 6 grandchildren - Ashley, Michael, Brooklyn, Austin, Chandler, and Wyatt, and 5 great-grandchildren - Hayden, Durden, Solomon, Catherine, and Walter, and her brother Albert Roberson and sister June Bagley.
Jenny was born in Grand Junction, Colorado, on January 27, 1940, to Robert Mansford and Naomi Eleanor Roberson. She spent her childhood growing up in the mountains of Colorado with her 4 siblings.
Jenny Kay was an amazing artist. She could paint and draw and practiced for her entire life. Many of those she loves have hand drawn or painted pictures to remind them of her love for them and her gift of art. She shared this love with her children and grandchildren, always offering them art books, paints, and reminding them of the practice needed even by those who were skilled. She was an avid reader and instilled this love in her children and grandchildren amassing a great collection of classic books in her lifetime.
Jenny's early career started in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma where was as a book editor, and she likely would have continued building a career in publishing, but she met her future husband at the movies one night on a blind date and they were never apart again shortly after that time.
Frank and Jenny had the most amazing adventure and love story and were married for 63 years when he passed away in 2021. They had many adventures together in life. They raised and trained quarterhorses, owned real estate, and did the jitterbug together like no one was watching. Raised their children and loved each other. While death separated them for two years, they were never really apart in her eyes and would be reunited.
Jenny had an amazing intellect and was incredibly beautiful inside and out. Jenny was a champion and protector of her children and grandchildren. She was always there for them even when they were wrong- and fought for them fiercely. She provided unconditional love for everyone and asked nothing in return. While she let everyone else shine and she was their support, her smile and laugh would light up a room brighter than any other light.
Her love of chocolate malts is world famous and she always said yes when her kids brought her one. She had a couple of rules for her kids that she was adamant about. The first, take care of your skin everyday. Use Estee Lauder. She did for 60 years. The second, be independent. She did everything she could to make sure her children and grandchildren were intelligent and independent. Her loss is significant to her family who will have a celebration of this gentle loving soul in remembrance of an amazing life.
