Jimmie “Buster” Marshall Roye, Sr., 73 years old from Shawnee, Oklahoma went home to be with the Lord on November 15, 2021. He was surrounded by his family.
Jimmie was born on August 8, 1948 in Lampasas Texas to James and Arlene Cobel. He was the oldest of three siblings and spent a lot of his youth travelling and living in many states and countries around the world while his father was working for Brown & Root construction building electric powerplants.
No matter where Jimmie lived, he always considered Lampasas, Texas his hometown. He had fond memories of going to high school and spending time with uncles, cousins, and friends while he was there. He moved to McLoud, Oklahoma in 1968 where he met, fell in love with and married Ellen Basinger. In 1969, he was drafted into the Army and served in Germany during the Vietnam War on the Chaparral Missile Program. He was always very proud to have served his country. During this time, his first-born son, Jimmie Roye, Jr. was born in Bittburg, Germany. After the Army he moved to Houston, Texas where he joined his father working for Brown & Root construction as an iron worker welder. There his second son, Travis Roye, was born. In 1979 he planted his roots and raised his family in McLoud, Oklahoma where he built his wife Ellen’s dream house by hand. He contract welded for Presidential Riggs on his own welding rig until he went to work at Tinker AFB in 1984. Jimmie worked at Tinker for 25 years until his retirement in 2009 as a Branch Chief where he was a 3rd level supervisor with oversight over many specialty trade skills.
Jimmie was married to Ellen for 35 years until the Lord called her home after a long hard-fought battle with cancer. In 2004, he found love again when he met Beverly Coleman, a Registered Nurse at Shawnee Hospital. They were married in 2006. Jimmie was always known for his grand gestures and had Beverly’s dream home built for her to start their new life together which he was very proud of in their 15 years of marriage. They had many amazing adventures together and were an inseparable pair. Jimmie also gained a stepson, Thomas Brownfield, through his marriage to Beverly. He was very proud to call him his son.
Jimmie was an expert craftsman when it came to his hot rods and muscle cars that he built. He regularly took them to car shows and won numerous awards for his amazing fabrication skills. He was also a master at the grill and would always cook enough food to feed an army at his annual cookouts. His golf game challenged many and he had the ability to leave the last stroke on the last hole and forget about it. It was always a walk in the park for him.
He was always a quick study at everything that he set his mind to and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who ever needed it. His kindness and impact on this world will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.
Jimmie is survived by his wife, Beverly Roye of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy Jr. and Tracy Roye, Travis and Paige Roye and Tom and Juli Brownfield; eight grandchildren, Arrington Roye, Kynadee Roye, Tanner Roye, Elysa Brownfield, Dustin Brownfield, Jake Brownfield, Ellie Brownfield, and Emma Brownfield; as well as sister, Peggy Gwinn and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Linda Soap.
