Shawnee resident Jimmy Ralph Carter, 90, passed from this life June 24, 2021.
Viewing will begin Sunday at 3:00 P.M.Services will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, June 28, 2021 at Walker Funeral Service Chapel. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.
He was born to James Dewey and Bertha Violet (Long) Carter on April 8, 1931 in Okmulgee, OK. He began first grade at Twin Oaks School (North of Seminole). They moved to Earlsboro in third grade, where he graduated in 1950. He married Clara Jean (Yoakum) in 1951 and later married Amanda Gowin in 1975. He worked in the oil field after high school until he joined the U.S. Army in 1952 and served in Korea. When he returned from Korea he worked at the Earlsboro Phone Co., and then went to work a Tinker Field where he retired in 1993. During the 1960’s he coached little league baseball, he enjoyed that and the boys loved and respected him. He loved to dance, play dominos, football, baseball, softball, and basketball so we know he’ll be doing all of that in heaven. He attended Earlsboro Baptist Church where he was baptized in 1941.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Amanda, sister: Edna Williams, brothers: James L. Carter, Eugene “Bud” Carter, Kenneth “Cotton” Carter, Billy Carter, and Harvey Carter.
He is survived by his children: Connie and Troy Rawls of Earlsboro, Jimmy Don and Trellis Carter of Earlsboro, Mac Carter of Vici, OK, Kathy and Todd Whatley of Seminole, Rickey and Sheryl Gowin of Shawnee, and Sandra Gowin of Shawnee, 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. 3 brothers: Lonnie, Melvin and Gary Carter, 3 sisters: Maxine Cole, Betty Ruiz, and Gloria Grimes, and many other relatives and friends.
