Joann Mary Mayes

Shawnee resident Joann Mary Mayes, 83, passed away Friday, July 2, 2021 in Shawnee. Wake services will be at 6:00 P.M. Sunday at St Benedict Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, July 5, 2021 at St. Benedict Catholic Church with Father Joseph Schwarz officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Joann was born June 10, 1938 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Almus Audy Markham and Edna Clara (Kerker) Markham. She worked as a homemaker much of her life but also as a waitress, caregiver, and home daycare for children. She was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother: William A. Markham. Survivors include her daughter, Darlene Mayes of Shawnee, sisters: Edna Marie (Markham) Hair Morris of Irving, TX, and Mercedes Moore of Hot Springs, AR, nephews: Tim and Chris Hair, and a niece: Cathy “Cat” Moore.
