John Robert Bird

John Robert “Jack” Bird of McLoud, was born on July 31, 1927, in Shonn, Kentucky and passed away on Friday, January 19, 2018, in Shawnee, Oklahoma, at the age of 90.Jack was the son of George David Bird Sr. and Margaret K. (Stinson) Bird. He graduated from McLoud high school with the class of 1945. He then went to Oklahoma Baptist University. Upon completing his degree, Jack entered the US Navy. He returned home from the Navy and attended the University of Oklahoma. Jack married Margaret Buzzard on February 13, 1955 in McLoud. He and his brother George owned and operated Bird’s Department Store in McLoud until Jack’s retirement. Jack loved the Lord with all of his heart. He taught Sunday School for many years and had a deep love and concern for everyone he met. Jack enjoyed going for walks with his family, listening to classical music, and watching television programs including preachers, the stock market, the daily news and westerns. He particularly enjoyed following and watching games of the collegiate teams that his son coached.Jack’s parents; sister, Lorena M Clampitt; brother, George D Bird Jr.; and one brother-in-law, Ray Dean Buzzard, preceded him in death. Jack is survived by his wife of 62 years Margaret, of the home; son and daughter-in-law Scott and Liz Bird of Columbia Missouri; cousin Sue Bird; brothers-in-law Richard Buzzard and Robert and Barbara Buzzard; sister-in-law Nancy Buzzard; 10 nieces and nephews, 16 great nieces and nephews, 16 great great nieces and nephews and many other family and friends.Memorial contributions may be made in Jack’s honor to the McLoud First Baptist Church at 109 S Eighth Street in McLoud OK, 74851. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 22, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church in McLoud, Oklahoma with Pastors Matthew Halsted, Ray Nida and Terry Rials officiating. Interment will follow at the Dale Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Walker Funeral Service in Shawnee.
