John Walter Burnett was born August 29, 1956 at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Denver, Colorado, to Bobby G. and JoAnn Burnett.  John passed from this life on October 2, 2017 at his home in Meeker, Oklahoma from complications caused by a life-long battle with diabetes. John started his career as a title abstractor with First American Title and Trust in Shawnee in 1977 and continued in that career until his death. John leaves behind his sons, Joshua John Burnett and wife, Jill, with their two children Avery and Jackson of Shawnee and Jonathan Gene Burnett of Shawnee.  He was preceded in death by his mother, JoAnn Barnett Burnett.  He is survived by his father, Bobby G. Burnett & step-mother, JoAnn W. Burnett of Shawnee; siblings: Bobby O. & Rebecca Burnett of Gordonville, Texas, Ben E. & Jennifer Burnett of Cheraw, South Carolina, Janice & Mickey Maynard of Shawnee, David & JoAnn Burnett of Oklahoma City, Jeannie & Kurt Jackson of Oklahoma City; Step-sisters: Debbie & Jay Leonard of White Hall, AR, and Jeannie & Chris Stephens of Pasadena, TX; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. John was an active member of Cherokee Hills Baptist Church in Oklahoma City.  He was a musician and played the bass guitar like none other and sang with the Singing Burnett Family in the 60’s and 70’s. He loved guns and pursued his hobbies as a gunsmith and hunter.  He was a founding member of the Knight’s Auto Club.  At one time he worked as a security guard at the Shawnee Bowling Alley.  He loved it because he got to carry a gun. John never met a stranger and was known and loved by many people in Shawnee.  His real estate friends and courthouse friends were like a second family to him.
