John Hogin Howard

John Hogin Howard was born in Shawnee on January 17, 1953 to Carl and Dozier Howard and stepped into heaven on Friday, September 10, 2021. He attended Shawnee Public Schools graduating in the Class of 1971. He spent most of his high school and college summers coaching tennis to area adults and children for longtime SHS tennis coach Paul Duffield. He attended OU where he received a degree in Economics. Upon graduation, he went to work for friend and mentor, Haylor Fisher, in the mortgage department of Home Federal Savings and Loan. He worked for American National/Arvest Bank for 25 years managing their mortgage division. He later became president of BancFirst's mortgage loan division overseeing loan applications, processing and approval of loans as well as managing all BancFirst mortgage loan officers in the state. He stepped down as president in 2021, due to declining health being named Assistant Chairman of BancFirst's mortgage division. He married Leanne Hayes Howard in 1983. John loved his community serving where he could to aid in its betterment. He worked tirelessly in the Jaycees organization where he served as local president and state governor receiving the Jaycee Award of Service in 1983 and 1984. He served several years as the judges' chairman and auditor for the Miss Shawnee Pageant. He was President, Board Member and Drive Chairman of the United Way of Pott. Co.; Treasurer, Board Member and Committee Chairman of the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce; President and Chairman of the Board for the Shawnee Family YMCA; Treasurer, Board Member of Shawnee Little Theatre; Board Member of the Shawnee Retail Merchants' Association; Board Member and Treasurer of Downtown Shawnee; Trustee of the Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art; Board Member and Treasurer of Youth and Family Resources; Chairman and Board Member of the Program to Achieve Self-Sufficiency of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe; Board Member and Treasurer of the Shawnee Education Foundation; Board Member and Treasurer of Gateway to Prevention and Recovery. John is preceded in death by parents, Dozier and Carl Howard, parents-in-law, Otis and Maxine Hayes, and a brother, Dude Howard. He is survived by his wife of nearly 38 years, Leanne Hayes Howard; daughter and son-in-law, Haley and Trey Cox; son and daughter-in-law, Lane and Erika Howard; sister and brother-in-law, Rose Lee and Joseph Robinson, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Gary Copeland; grandchildren Camden and Stella Cox and Hollis Howard, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held Thursday, September 16, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Immanuel Baptist Church. Dr. Todd Fisher will officiate. Those attending are respectfully encouraged to wear masks. Memorials may be made to the Immanuel Baptist Church Building Fund, 1451 East 45th Street, Shawnee, Oklahoma 74804.
