John Charles Owens

John C. Owens, age 77, long-time resident of Shawnee, passed away Sunday, December 17, 2023 in Oklahoma City.

John was born October 11, 1946 in Shawnee, Oklahoma, son of Roy and Lois (Sperber) Owens. He attended Shawnee schools from the First Grade to Dec 1962, transferred to Oklahoma Military Academy for second semester of his junior year starting in Jan 1963 and graduated from OMA in 1964. He served a brief time in the military, completing basic training in 1965 before being honorably discharged. He was an alumni of Rogers State University and Oklahoma Baptist University where he studied business administration. He applied his business studies when he owned and operated Owens Furniture in Shawnee for many years. John enjoyed many passions including serving as a registered deputy sheriff and private pilot. As well, he was an excellent marksman, winning several awards. Some of his spare time was spent on his interest in model aircraft and all things aviation. Being a lifelong member of the American Motorcyclist Association, the Treasurer for the Gold Wing Road Riders Chapter B, he was also considered a motorcycle enthusiast.

A graveside ceremony for John will be held at 2:00pm Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at Fairview Cemetery in Shawnee, Oklahoma with Phil Thompson officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Walker Funeral & Cremation Service.
