Johnnie L. Kinnamon

June 15, 1927 — April 12, 2019

Johnnie L Kinnamon, age 91, long time resident of Shawnee passed away in his home on April 12, 2019.

He was born June 15th 1927, to John Robert Kinnamon and Annie (Kubicek) Kinnamon in Seminole County Oklahoma.  He worked on his fathers farm at a young age, in the Pottawatomie County area, where he met the love of his life, Gladys Robertson, in 1948. They were married September 14th,1950, and soon after he was drafted by the US Army.  He served in post World War II, occupied Germany.

Upon returning, he started his 32 year career at Tinker Air Force Base, retiring June 2, 1982. He deeply loved his family and friends. He was a tireless servant to his community, serving 40 years as a volunteer at the Dale Cemetery.  He loved all aspects of farming and raising cattle until later in his life. As a hobby, he restored around 30 antique tractors, including a 1937 International Harvester Farmall F-12 which he used as a young boy on his fathers farm.  He had a remarkable mechanical aptitude and could fix or repair almost anything.  He spent hours in his garage building things out of salvaged materials using his creative imagination and keen intellect.  He was a past member of the Oklahoma Farming Heritage Association and enjoyed showing his restored tractors at antique farm equipment shows.  He had an amazing love for children, which was not limited to his own family. His children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and countless nieces and nephews enjoyed sitting on his lap and laughing as he sang special songs to them.  He often told colorful and detailed stories of his childhood and retained his remarkable memory until his passing.

During his life, he never failed to give sacrificially and generously whatever was needed to family or friends.  He lived on his small farm, near Dale, for 61 years where he raised his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He was faithfully married to his wife, Gladys (Robertson) Kinnamon, for 68 years.

Proceeding him in death are his parents, brothers Robert, James, and JD Kinnamon and sisters Wilma Lackey, Anna Mae Enochs and Roseberry Honeycutt, son Jerry Wayne Kinnamon, and great-grandson Ryton Lane Kinnamon (son of Brock and Brittany).

He is survived by his wife Gladys of the home, daughter Barbara Kinnamon Bush and husband Kerry of Nashville, grandchildren Brett Kinnamon and wife Kara, Brock Kinnamon and wife Brittany all of Shawnee, Andrew Kinnamon of Bethel Acres and Maria Danielle French of Nashville, great-grandchildren Kelsey Kinnamon, Chris Kinnamon, MaKenna Bienhoff, Mason Kinnamon, and Maci Jo Kinnamon, brothers and sisters are Don Kinnamon of Stroud, Betty Jane Barrett of Cookson, and Thomas Kinnamon of Shawnee.
