Joseph "Joe" Emory McKimmey, age 87, left this world to be with his Lord Sunday, November 10th, 2024 in Plano, Texas.
Joe was born in Phoenix, Arizona to his parents Ray and Olga on June 11th, 1937. He married his childhood sweetheart, Jettie Mae Chesser. Together, they raised a family and resided in Shawnee for most of the entirety of their lives together.
He was a long time staple in Shawnee, Oklahoma as a politician (city commission), restaurateur (Top-Hat Drive-In and Sonic's first car-hop, the Log House), entrepreneur (Can Can Canning Company, Moonwalk Rentals), Attorney-at-Law, fulfilling his compassion of helping people, Sunday school teacher (serving others) and faithful loving husband (provider), father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His hobbies included watching OU football and woodworking to make things for children.
Joe is preceded in death by his wife Jettie Mae McKimmey, and son Jeffrey McKimmey. Survivors include his adult children Catherine Lee McKimmey Macgregor and husband Luis of San Antonio, TX and Steven McKimmey and wife Francia of Plano, TX, five grandchildren: Grant Ross, Brent Ross and wife Louise, Michael Ross, Jossa Henson and husband Tanner, and Joshua McKimmey, four great-grandchildren: Hailey Ross, Isaac Ross, Taighler Ross, and Madeline Ross, one brother Jack and wife Millie McKimmey.
Friends and loved ones may pay their respects at the funeral home on Sunday, November 17. 2024 from 1-6pm with the family present to greet guests from 3-5pm. A funeral ceremony will be held at 1pm Monday, November 18, 2024 at the First Church of the Nazarene in Shawnee with Rev. Johnny Stephens officiating. Following the ceremony, Joe will be laid to rest next to his wife Jettie at Resthaven Memorial Park in Shawnee.
