Juanita Souix Smith, aged 64, passed away on April 9th, 2025. Juanita was a beloved member of her community, known for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering spirit. She touched the lives of many with her warmth and compassion.
Juanita was born in Phoenix, AZ, and lived in the Shawnee, OK area for most of her life. She always had a strong connection with the outdoors and the animals she had cared for.
Juanita last worked at the Shawnee News Star, where she performed administrative duties until her retirement in 2007. In her personal life, Juanita was a devoted mother who was very proud of her two sons and the men they had become. She loved gardening, traveling in the RV, riding horses with her friends, off-roading in the RZR, and going to the lake with friends and family. Juanita was always the life of the party, bringing joy and laughter to every gathering. Her creativity and enthusiasm were evident in everything she did.
Juanita is survived by her husband, Michael Smith; her sons, Jerry Rosser and his wife Kristy, and Travis Rosser and girlfriend Erica Cook and her three children Tyler, Ryan, and Bryn ; her two brothers, Bobby Barton and Phillip Parker; an aunt, an uncle, and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dorsey Parker and Wrenetta Jackson, and her brothers, Jimmy Barton, Dee Barton, Dale Barton, and Archie Parker. Juanita will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of love, kindness, and generosity will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known her.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 14, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Walker Funeral Chapel.
