Judith Kay Thompson Jones

Judith Kay Thompson Jones, 75, passed away on Thursday morning October 10, 2024. Judy was born on August 7, 1949 in Cuba, Missouri to her parents, Everett Gene O’Neal and Eva Clark. She attended Rolla High School. Judy began working at the Oklahoma State Department of Corrections in September of 1983 until she retired in 2013.

Judy married Harvey Thompson in 1968 and, together, they had a daughter and two sons. After a time, she met Jerry Miller having another daughter. In 1993, she married David Jones and added another son and daughter to the family. Judy raised six children and her family was her pride and joy. She spent as much time with her grandchildren as possible, often having them come stay with her all summer. She passed down her love of sewing, crafting and cooking to them by always having the kids help sew Christmas PJs, make homemade ornaments, or be by her side cooking dinner in the kitchen.

Judy was quick to help anyone and everyone. On several occasions, she would drop what she was doing to pick someone up or help get them out of a bad situation. She herself was a survivor. She overcame throat cancer and her lung collapsing twice. She was a strong believer in the power of prayer and passed along her wisdom and fighting spirit to the women she worked with at Mabel Bassett Correctional Facility. She constantly encouraged those around her to make good choices and fight for a better future for themselves.

Judy also took great pride in her home, from her garden and fruit trees to the flowers she kept throughout the yard, and was dedicated to feeding the hummingbirds. She religiously filled what seemed like 10 hummingbird feeders every 3 days just so she could sit on the porch and watch the birds come in. She loved her hummingbirds and would even name the ones that would come back every day like Tiny Tim and Fat Albert. Her house was constantly full of life. There was never a time when there wasn’t at least one dog running around, too, on top of all the kids.

Judy’s last days were spent at her home in McLoud, OK surrounded by her immediate family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, provider, teacher, comforter, and warrior. She is survived by brothers, Gene and Chris O’Neal, sister, Terri Wasson, children, Rolene Thompson, James (Linda) Thompson, Brandon Thompson and Christy, David (April) Jones, Amanda Miller and Ryan Martin, Jennifer (Matt) Hull, and spouse, David Jones. She is also survived by her 15 grandchildren: Michael, Justin, Sean, Thomas, Brandi, Jamie, Aubbi, Courtli, Mylee, Memphis, Lela, Triston, Cescelie, Brianna, Elijah and 4 great-grandchildren: Rosie, Phoenix, Kolsyn and Jayda.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Everett Gene O’Neal and Eva Clark, sister, Gayla McIntosh, ex-husband, Harvey Thompson, and granddaughter, Aubri Thompson.
