Karen Jean Small

Karen Jean Small, resident of Meeker, passed away on January 31st, 2024. She was 73 years old. Karen was born on September 23rd, 1951 to Elmer and Betty Ballard in Prague, OK.

During her childhood, she attended various schools due to her father’s occupation in construction. In 1984, she married the love of her life, Jim Small. They settled in Oklahoma City. Their occupation provided an opportunity for them to work together at Rollin’s Trucking. As office manager, Karen took great pride in her work and was a dedicated role model. She was always eager to learn new things and enrolled in college as an adult. She attended Connor State College and studied counseling and psychology. She maintained a 4.0 GPA and graduated with honors being inducted into the National Honor’s Society as well as Phi Theta Kappa. As a result of her academic status, she was awarded a trip to New York City. After a successful career, alongside her family, Karen retired to Eufaula where she was able to enjoy many sunsets and fishing trips.

Karen had a very special bond with many of her close family and friends. She had a passion for good food and enjoyed gathering with her family and friends at her favorite local restaurants. She spent many afternoons playing cards, reminiscing about old times, and laughing with friends. Despite her ailing health, she always had a smile on her face and a zest for life. Karen loved God, going to church, dancing, fishing, shopping, spending time with family and friends, playing card games, listening to country music, and attending the annual Affair of the Heart. She always looked forward to going to eat and shop with her great niece Camryn and getting her hair done with her honorary sister, Debbie.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Betty Ballard, sister, Loretta Burch, brothers, William Ottis Bill Ballard and Bob Ballard, and niece, Shelly Wilhite.

Survivors include daughters, Candy Buoy and husband Mark of Prague and Chelsea Foster and husband Mark of Virginia, brother, Alan Ballard of Meeker, and grandchildren, Devin Timmons, Matthew and Marleigh. Karen had a very special and unique bond with many of her nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. These people all had a very special place in her heart whom she loved dearly.

“Although it’s difficult today to see beyond the sorrow, may looking back in memory help comfort you tomorrow.”
