Lyndal Kent Kellogg was born on Independence Day, July 4, 1938, in Bristow, OK and passed into eternity on March 24, 2025, in Shawnee, OK. The number of his days were 86 years, 8 months and 20 days.
Kent was born to Eugene Woodward and Oleeta Muriel (Taylor) Kellogg, the second son of a second son and the third of four children. He spent his formative years in Welty and Bristow, OK. Kent could have been negatively impacted by poverty and illness experienced during the early years, but the love, strength and determination of a close-knit extended family set him on a course of hard work, integrity and determination.
Kent married the Baptist preacher’s daughter, Lyndell Mae Hart, on March 7th, 1959, in Henryetta, OK. He was widowed a few days shy of their 65th wedding anniversary. Their union produced four children, seven grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.
Kent committed his life to Christ in October 1963 during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Shortly thereafter, he surrendered to full-time Gospel ministry pastoring seven Baptist churches across Texas, Kansas and Oklahoma. He then served as the Director of Mission for the Muskogee Baptist Association until his retirement. Always faithful, he served as interim pastor of several Baptist churches in Oklahoma post-retirement.
Kent graduated from Wayland Baptist College in 1968 with a Bachelor of Arts in Religion while working full-time, raising a growing family and pastoring a church. He graduated from Midwestern Baptist Theological seminary in 1973 with Master of Divinity.
Kent knew heartache and tragedy. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Eugene and Muriel Kellogg, stepfather Melvin Quinn, an infant sister, older brother Don Kellogg, sister Carolyn Williams, his wife, Lynn, their first-born son, Paul Kellogg, and first-born grandson Reagan Kellogg.
Kent knew love. He is survived by his youngest sister, Connie Green of Owasso, OK. Three children, Robert Kellogg and wife Tonia of Shawnee OK, Michelle Johnson and husband Bill of Edmond OK, and Starla Taylor and husband Cris of Frisco TX, five granddaughters, one grandson, six great grandsons and two great granddaughters.
The three self-reliant successful children, all Christ followers in decades long loving marriages - six grandchildren including two physicians, two nurses, and two business leaders in corporate finance, all Christ followers, and eight healthy spoiled grandchildren are the legacy of the little Kellogg boy from Welty.
Kent baptized hundreds of new Christ followers and officiated hundreds of weddings and memorial services in his nearly 50-year ministry. He pointed many more to Christ, discipling and ministering to them through their life journey. The number of people touched by Kent’s ministry will not be fully known or appreciated this side of heaven. Lives changed is the legacy of a Good Shepherd. Well done dad!
The family extends their admiration and heartfelt gratitude to staff of Primrose Retirement Community of Shawnee and Cohesive Hospice of Shawnee. Your care and compassion of our father exceeded all expectations.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial gift can be made to the Kent Kellogg Family Scholarship Fund at Oklahoma Baptist University, providing scholarship assistance for minister’s children.
Those wishing to pay their respects may do so on Thursday, March 27, 2025 from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm with family present to greet friends from 5-7pm. A graveside ceremony for Kent will be held at Resthaven Memorial Park on Friday, March 28, 2025 at 10:00 am.
