Leonard W. Leniewski was born on April 15, 1924 to Bernard Leniewski and Helen Jonas Leniewski in Milwaukee, WI. Leonard passed from this life on September 14, 2022 at age 98. Leonard enlisted in the U.S. Army on March 3, 1943. He served in the Army Signal Corp achieving the rank of T-5 during WWII. The army had him listed as a Lineman until he climbed a pole and only got to 6 ft. After they got him to release his hugging the pole, he became a switchboard operator. They laid telephone cables in roadside ditches. General Patton's tanks would sometimes run off the road and damage the cables. Leonard could locate the damage from his switchboard and send a repair crew out to the exact location. Leonard worked for Allen Bradley in Milwaukee, WI. Allen Bradley built a new plant in Shawnee in 1977. Leonard moved to Shawnee to help open the plant. He retired on December 3, 1980 after 38 years with the company. In retirement, Leonard volunteered at Meals On Wheels. He transitioned to an Angel of Mercy by transporting people in Shawnee to doctor and hospital appointments. He made many trips a week to Oklahoma City, Tulsa, or wherever people needed to go. One time, when a young man got back in the car, Leonard asked if he would need a return visit. The young man said no his parole officer did not need to see him again. Leonard was a member of St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Shawnee, helping in many tasks, especially keeping the carillon on time. Leonard moved from Shawnee to St. Ann's retirement community in 2017. Wake will be at 7:00 p.m., Monday, September 26th, St. Benedict's Catholic Church, Shawnee, OK. Mass will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 27th, St. Benedict's Catholic Church, Shawnee, OK. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
