Linda Kay Sperry, age 75, longtime Shawnee Real Estate Agent passed on to Glory on Monday, September 19, 2022 with her family at her side.
Friends and loved ones may visit with the family from 6-8 PM on Saturday, September 24, in the Youth Chapel at Immanuel Baptist Church. A memorial ceremony to celebrate Linda's life will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, September 25, in the sanctuary at Immanuel Baptist Church with Dr. Todd Fisher officiating. Linda will be laid to rest privately at Resthaven Memorial Park in Shawnee.
Linda was born on July 30, 1947 to Jonathan “David” White and Susie Mae (McGraw) White in Maryville, Missouri, the first of three daughters. Early life was spent in Maryville with Linda graduating from Maryville High School in 1965. Following graduation, Linda attended and graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University (OBU) with a double major in Psychology and Sociology. Her senior year, she met Michael "Mike" Sperry, who was also studying at OBU. They were married shortly after her graduation on June 21, 1969 in Maryville. After college, she began working for the Department of Human Services as a case worker and eventually became a case worker supervisor. Linda, Mike and their two girls lived in various central Oklahoma towns before returning to Shawnee in the late 1970's. She worked at Gordon Cooper for a year and, while there, established the Displaced Homemaker's program. Shortly thereafter, she took some time to stay home with her two children.
Later, Linda returned to work, this time as a Real Estate Agent. Linda had much success in her 31-year real estate career. She had a competitive spirit, but her honest approach to real estate led to satisfied, trusting relationships with her customers. She also enjoyed mentoring fellow agents about navigating personal finances with variable income that is inherent in the real estate industry. Additionally, she earned her Brokers License and her GRI designation, as a graduate of the REALTOR Institute, denoting her status as a premier agent both in performance and continuing education. Linda often taught students as a guest lecturer at OBU finance classes about the real estate purchasing process, including tips on financial management and budgeting. With a heart built for service, Linda was a member of the Shawnee Board of Realtors (including serving a term as President), was named Realtor of the Year by the Shawnee Board of Realtors in 2002, earned many “Top Producer of the Year” awards at her real estate brokerage firms, served on the Alumni Board at OBU for over a decade, was a founding member of “The Women of Vision” organization at OBU and served on numerous committees at her beloved Immanuel Baptist Church, Shawnee.
Family was Linda's greatest treasure on earth. She loved cooking for them and was quite good at it. Relatives weren't the only "family" she cherished, but also her church family, her real estate family, high school players that Mike coached through the years and friends of her girls. Her home was warm and welcoming and always full of young people and friends. She will be dearly missed.
Survivors include her husband, Mike, of the home; daughters: Stephanie Shelton and husband, Garrett, of Enid, OK, Kellie Duran and husband, Rob, of Edmond, OK; sisters: Bonnie Sutton and husband, Steve, of Maryville, MO, Polly Twaddle and husband, Bruce, of Maryville, MO; grandchildren: Nick Shelton, Madison Shelton, Kaitlyn Duran, and Will Duran; caregiver: Alice Bowdish, as well as many dear friends and neighbors. Linda was preceded in death by her parents.
