Lonnie Monroe Chapman

Lonnie Monroe Chapman, 87, of Harrah, died on Thursday, March 19, in Oklahoma City. Lonnie, the son of James Lemuel and Hazel Ruth (Adams) Chapman, was born May 16, 1932, in Grimes, Oklahoma.

In the sixth grade Lonnie’s family moved to the Harrah McLoud area, he graduated high school at Harrah with the class of 1950. Lonnie proudly served in the US Air Force. On May 19, 1980, he married Catherine “Cathy” Jones, in Gainesville, Texas. He and Cathy enjoyed almost forty years as husband and wife until her passing in June of 2019.

Lonnie was a truck driver, working for many years for Leeway Trucking. Farming was a passion of Lonnie’s, he also enjoyed gardening, working cattle, welding, hunting and fishing, and mowing lawns. Lonnie would not only mow his own lawn, he also mowed the lawn of several of his neighbors.

Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a brother, James; and by three sisters, Rosella, Marie and Pearl.

He is survived by his son, Lonnie “Chipper” Chapman; step sons, Mike, Ed, and Pat Berglund, and Mike Conlin; step daughter, Carol Hudson; several grandkids and great grandkids; and many other family members and friends.

A private graveside service for Lonnie will be followed by a memorial reception at Lonnie’s house, located at 20971 Main St in Harrah, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Monday, March 23rd.

Services are under the direction of Walker Funeral Service in Shawnee.
