Lyndell Mae (Hart) Kellogg was born late Saturday afternoon, January 15, 1938, in Oklahoma City, OK. She passed suddenly in the early morning of February 23, 2024, in Shawnee, OK. She lived 86 years, one months, and eight days. For Lynn, the days were long, but the years were short.
Lynn was born to Rev. Wendell and Thelma Hart, the first born of four children. A preacher’s kid, Lynn lived across Oklahoma as her father ministered in several communities, but she seemed to remember her years in Maysville most fondly.
Lynn married Lyndal Kent Kellogg on March 7, 1959, in Prague, OK. She passed a few days shy of their 65th wedding anniversary.
Kent and Lynn made their first home in Albuquerque, NM. When Kent responded to God’s call on his life, the preacher’s kid became the preacher’s wife. Subsequently, the Kellogg’s lived in Plainview TX, Amarillo TX, Lenexa KS, Dewey OK, Fort Gibson, OK, Shawnee, OK and Oklahoma City, OK.
Lynn graduated from Wayland Baptist College in 1968 with a bachelor’s degree in education. Prior to her retirement in the mid-1990s she taught a multitude of subjects and grades from a poor minority school in Amarillo to a wealthy district in Johnson County, KS, as well as rural and suburban schools in Oklahoma.
Lynn gave life to four children. She would tell you that they were her pride and joy, and the focus of her love, thoughts, and attention.
Lynn was not immune to the struggles of life, but one constant was that she desired to love deeply, unconditionally, and unashamedly.
Lynn knew tragedy. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Rev Wendell and Thelma Hart, her youngest brother, John Hart, her first-born son, Paul Kellogg, and first-born grandson, Reagan Kellogg.
Lynn was loved. She is survived by her husband, Kent Kellogg of Shawnee, three children, Robert Kellogg and wife Tonia of Shawnee, OK, Michelle Johnson and husband Bill of Edmond, OK, and Starla Taylor and husband Cris of Frisco, TX; five granddaughters, one grandson and five great-grandsons.
Three self-reliant successful children, all Christ followers in decades long loving marriages including two daughters who followed her into a career in education - six grandchildren including two physicians, two nurses, and two executives with Fortune 500 companies, all Christ followers, and five spoiled great-grandsons are the lasting legacy of Lyndell Mae Kellogg.
The family would like to thank the staff at Brookdale for their compassionate care of Lynn.
A funeral ceremony for Lynn will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at Immanuel Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Hulse officiating. Following the ceremony, Lynn will be laid to rest at Resthaven Memorial Park in Shawnee, OK.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Kellogg Family Scholarship Fund at Oklahoma Baptist University.
Pallbearers will be: Lance Mock, Hunter Holmes, Bill Johnson, Cris Taylor, Eli Gardner, and Jon Johnston.
Honorary Pallbearer: Joshua Taylor.
