Maudie Lea Wilson, longtime Shawnee-area resident, passed away on March 12, 2018. She was 84.Maudie was born in Stonewall, Oklahoma, on March 2, 1934, the daughter of Ora (Gill) and John William France. In 1952, she graduated from Stonewall High School, and married Roland “Tuck” Wilson later that year. After earning a Bachelor of Education degree from Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas, in 1966, she did graduate work at the University of Oklahoma.Maudie was a dedicated teacher with the Shawnee school system, teaching for 30 years at both Woodrow Wilson and Franklin elementary schools.Preceding her in death were her parents, one brother, three sisters, her husband, Tuck, and one son, Stephen Ray. Maudie’s survivors include two sons, Dan Wilson of Noble, and Richard Wilson of New York City; three granddaughters, Melissa Folsom and her husband, Kevin, of Cushing, Shelby Wilson of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Taylor Aufill and her husband, Matt, of Norman; two great-grandsons, Kody and Trevor Folsom, and one great-granddaughter, Logan Folsom. Maudie is also survived by a sister, Lavern Powell, of Delaware, and numerous other relatives.The family will be present at Walker Funeral Service in Shawnee from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 15, to receive friends. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 16, at Immanuel Baptist Church in Shawnee, with Dr. Todd Fisher officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.The Wilson family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all Maudie’s devoted friends - as well as the staff of Primrose Retirement Community, where she lived for the past three years - for their loving support and care during her final illness.
