Melba Janiece McCullar age 84 of Shawnee, died Thursday April 7, 2022 in an Oklahoma City Hospital. Graveside Services will be Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. at Tecumseh Cemetery. Phil Thompson officiating. Melba was born August 21, 1937 in Sulphur Springs, Arkansas to Carlos and Viola (Wick) Haug. She attended 1st grade in Springdale, Arkansas and then her family moved to Oklahoma City. She was baptized at age 11 in the First Christian Church by Rev. R. Scott Baird. From 8th to 12th grade she attended school in Shawnee where she became active in the choir. She was a member of the Junior High Sextet and a member of the High School Trio where she sang for many organizations, such as the Rotary and Lions Club. She was also active in the choir at 1st Christian Church and sang specials with her sisters. Melba spent most of her married life away from Shawnee. She returned in 1977 and began working at Roesch Funeral Chapel in 1978 until she retired in 1994. She became a member of Liberty Baptist Church in 1992. She met her future husband, Jesse L. McCullar and they married in that church on October 17, 1992. Melba and Jesse loved working in the yard and they even won "Yard of the Month". She got her love of flowers from her Mom who could grow a stick Ha!-------She also loved reading, travel and most of all she loved family get togethers. They were fortunate enough to travel to Germany, France, Austria, Denmark, Ireland, Scotland, England and Holland. In Germany they searched records for the Haug lineage. They loved riding the trains through the different countries. Melba always loved music of all types (Except Jazz!). She loved band music, choirs, gospel singing, organ music, country and marching bands. Thanksgiving and Christmas was always at Grandma Melba's and Paw-Paw Jess's They lit up the house inside and out. Jess and Melba loved birds and small animals and playing with them in the backyard. They couldn't turn away a hungry animal. They both cared about others and had kind hearts. She will be deeply missed by her friends, family and all that knew her. She is survived by: her Son and daughter-in-law: David and Terrie Ledinski of Shawnee; 2 Daughters: Donna Jenks of Shawnee and Robin Sharp of Shawnee; Grandchildren: Austin Ledinski, Amanda Ledinski, Emily Ledinski, Jennifer Richardson, Ashley Peerson, Ryan Peerson; One Step-daughter: Tina Deremer and One Great Granddaughter: Bailee Reeves. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband; one Grandchild- James Terry Lidinski; one Brother: Delbert Haug; 3 Sisters: Estelene Kennemer, Evelyn Carson and JoAnn Odom; 2 nieces Beverly Odom and Debbie Anderson; and 1 Nephew: Carl Wayne Haug.
