Michael Wayne Berry

August 6, 1959 — January 10, 2023

Michael Wayne Berry, 63, resident of Shawnee, Oklahoma passed away on January 10, 2023, in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

Michael was born on August 6, 1959, to Geraldine Knapp and George Berry in Pawnee, Oklahoma. He attended Rose State College from 1981 to 1983 then attended Photography School in 1991 and graduated in 1992. He worked as an Independent Contractor for various computer related jobs until retirement.

He enjoyed working at James Sausage with his long-time friend, David James. Since then, he fell in love with photography and spent the next couple of decades really seeing what he could do with it. He worked previously with Walmart Photos, Tom Flora Photography, and Scott Laske Images. His last place of employment was at the Absentee Shawnee Tribe from May of 2006 to May of 2018 as an Assistant Manager/IT Analyst.

He loved computers and his photography. His passion was bridal, or wedding, photography, but he also loved portraits. He enjoyed watching Star Trek, Western TV shows and movies, and cheering for the Sooners on game day. Michael was a voracious eater of watermelons and cantaloupe. His best passions were being an herbalist and spiritual guide to those that were lost.

He is survived by his son, Dakota Berry, sister, Diane Sue Griffin, niece, Corrine Sue Griffin, great niece, Everleigh Blackshire, uncle, Dale Davis, nephew, Craig Griffin, life-long friend, David James and wife, Tammi, among many others that were fortunate enough to know him and call him "friend."

Michael was preceded in death by his mother, Geraldine Knapp, grandmother, Josephine Davis, granddad, George W. Davis, great-uncle, Ronald Davis, uncle, Edward Davis, and nephew, Christopher Griffin.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to do something for Michael, or his family may plant a tree in his honor.

A celebration of life ceremony will be held at the Walker Funeral Chapel (201 E. 45th Street, Shawnee, OK) on Thursday, January 19, 2023, at 2:00 pm.

"A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory." One of his favorite quotes by Leonard Nimoy playing Spock in Star Trek.
