Monte Del Chancellor

Monte (Monzo) Del Chancellor, 66, of Newalla OK passed away Sept 22, 2022.

Monte was born in Shawnee, OK on October 4, 1955 to Del and Mary Chancellor. Monte graduated from Dale High School, however had always told the grandkids he only made it to the 8th grade.

Monte married his sweetheart, Sheila Newby on September 30, 1978. This year would mark their 44-year anniversary. Monte worked as a Mason for years before going to work at Tinker Air Force Base where he retired in 2011 after 30 years of service.

Monte enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an avid OU fan. Monte could always be found cheering on any OU team or watching his Bears on Sunday during football season. If he wasn't watching OU he was out chasing his most prized possessions the grandkids, the ones that made him a PA. Monte was the light of all the grandkids and whether it be near or far there was not a game or event that he missed. He never told a story without sarcasm and mostly those stories ended with the grandkids saying "fishhook". Monte had the ability to make anyone laugh and feel accepted. Monte welcomed all and would always offer a juice, ice cream or popsicle as soon as you walked in the door.

Monte was preceded in death by his parents, Del and Mary Chancellor and sisters, Mary Jo Walker and Lori Cranford.

He is survived by his wife Sheila of the home (Newalla), daughter Lori Eslinger and husband Bill of McLoud, daughter Monica Mapira and husband Shelton of Newalla, grandchildren, Nathan (grasshopper) Eslinger, Chloe Mapira, Claire (Art) Mapira, Tucker (T-man) Mapira, Emma Eslinger, Owen (Dennis)Eslinger, brother-in-law Eddie Walker, aunts, Betty Chancellor, Ercel Brown, Shirley Hopkins and Joyce Terney, nephew, Shane Walker and family, Lacy Duffy and family, Cristi Turman and family, Amanda Cranford, as well as a brother from the north and a brother from the south that he never had.

Monte is now at his eternal home but his legacy and love will live on forever.

Viewing for Monte will be held from 1-6pm on Sunday, September 25th and from 8am-7pm with family present from 4-6pm on Monday, September 26th at Walker Funeral & Cremation Service in Shawnee, OK. A funeral ceremony will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at the Walker Funeral Chapel in Shawnee, OK with burial to follow in Newalla. Casketbearers will be: Bill Eslinger, Nate Eslinger, Owen Eslinger, Shelton Mapira, Tucker Mapira, Shane Walker, Robby Turman, Bobby Kingery, and Robert Culwell.
