Jean (Butler) Spear, age 91, of Shawnee died Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at her home.
Service will be Monday October 12, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church, Dr. Charles Kimball officiating.
Burial will be on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at 11:00 in the Akins Cemetery in Akins, Oklahoma, north of Sallisaw, Oklahoma, with Rev. Clint Dawkins officiating.
She was born August 21, 1929 in Shattuck, Oklahoma to Joseph Reuben and Lena Belle (Grayson) Butler. She attended Escondido High School in Escondido, California and attended Oklahoma Baptist University. She married Bobby Lee Spear on August 26, 1951 in Escondido, California and they did Foreign Missionary work in Thailand with the Southern Baptist Convention from 1951 to 1993. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Shawnee; In 1950-Vice President of Young Women’s Association at O.B.U., In 1950-Who’s Who at O.B.U., 1951 President of Young Women’s Association O.B.U. and in 1950 to 1951 Home Coming Queen at O.B.U. She studied for 2 years at New Orleans Theological Seminary. She home educated her 4 children (3 born in Thailand) 1st through 7th grades, learning and adapting to Thai culture and language in remote regions.
She is preceded in death by her parents, a daughter: Karen Spear and 2 sisters: Betty Jo Caywood and Nona Lee McClung.
She is survived by her Husband: Bob Spear of Shawnee, Children: Linda M. (Michael) Robertson missionaries in Siberia, Steven F. (Crystal) Spear, minister in Henderson, Nevada and Cheryl J. (Daniel) Wilson of Tecumseh, Oklahoma,17 grandchildren, 20 great -grandchildren and 18 niece and nephews.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention, Foreign Mission Work.
