Pearl Ilene Newport passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, in Shawnee, Oklahoma. She was born on October 15, 1945, in Santa Monica, California to Robert and Pearl Wendlandt. She attended Grover Cleveland High School in Reseda, California where she was raised and spent most of her life. She worked for Pacific Bell in Los Angeles for over 30 years before relocating to Shawnee to be close to her daughter and grandsons. She then worked for the State of Oklahoma at the Pottawatomie County Health Department, as a clerk, for almost 20 years. Pearl's love of children got her involved with the Girl Scouts in the San Fernando Valley for 18 years. Giving continued into her actives with the Mormon church where she loved helping with the primary children and young women providing help and guidance where she was needed. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Pearl Wendlandt. Survivors include her daughter, Tami Smith and Son-in-Law, Brian of Meeker, grandsons, Brandon Smith of Shawnee and Chase Smith of Meeker, three great-granddaughters, Nora, Ember, and Cheva, and brother, Robert Wendlandt and wife Cheryl of Simi Valley, California. A graveside ceremony will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at the Tecumseh Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Walker Funeral and Cremation Service.
