Richard Lee Carter, resident of Shawnee, passed away on December 28, 2021 at 67 years of age in his family home.
Richard was born in Shawnee to Jesse and Gwendolyn Carter on September 28, 1954. He attended Washington Elementary and then on to Dale where he graduated. Richard later received a certificate of Complete Automotive from Southwest Automotive School in Oklahoma City. He married the love of his life, Virginia June Cox on March 10, 1972 in Shawnee. Together the couple raised three boys Lance, Eric and Kyle. He retired from Bob Howard PDC in 2019 after spending his entire career in the auto parts industry where he made many lifelong friends with coworkers and customers.
Richard was an avid outdoorsman and spent all of his life hunting, fishing and trapping. His love of the outdoors was one that he passed on to his boys. Richard and June spent many weekends lakeside in their travel trailer surrounded by friends and family. Richard loved Ford vehicles, rock music, cold beer and good stories and if you were privileged enough to share one, or all, with him you were sure to leave with a bellyache from laughing. Richard liked to spend his time watching westerns or college sports with his dog, Laci.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Gwendolyn Carter and in-laws, Leo and Mabel Cox.
His wife, June of the home, survives Richard along with their three sons, Lance (Christy) of Shawnee, Eric (Sandy) of Medford, and Kyle (Carrie) of Pond Creek, OK. He is also survived by his twin sister, Rhonda, nephew, Dwayne, grandchildren, Shania and Mariah (Lance), Maci, Paytn, Livia, Landon, Emma, and Aisley (Eric), Braden, Alli, Karter, Callaway (Kyle) and one great-granddaughter, Mila.
Richards’s family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Heartland Hospice for the outstanding care and guidance they provided and to our family and friends for the love and support through this difficult time.
