Robert Russell Griggs

Robert Russell Griggs, 94, of Shawnee, died on July 3, 2019 in Lexington.

Robert was born to Willie and Nellie (Thomas) Griggs on October 25, 1924 in Dale.  After graduating from high school, Robert entered the US Army, where he proudly served during World War II.  Robert worked as a gas plant operator, he retired after 27 years with Shell.  In October of 1972, he married Billie June Steward in Shawnee.  Robert was a tinkerer, one of his favorite things to do was to make clocks, having made dozens over the years.  He enjoyed watching wildlife through his window, he loved farming and working on his farm implements.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Faye; a daughter and son-in-law, Eva and Billy Canada; a grandson, Allan Canada; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Clifford and Alberta Griggs and Guy Griggs.

He is survived by his children, Wayne and Cheryl Griggs, Phyllis and Keith Brister, Bobby and Cindy Kingery; grandchildren, Michael Brister, Nikki Gentes, Chris Griggs, Shelly Greenwalt, Kari Gilliam, Melissa Creek, Bonnie Canada; sixteen great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Marie and a brother-in-law Sammy; and many other family and friends.

A graveside service will be Saturday, July 6, at 10:00 AM at Dale Cemetery with Rev Doug Parker officiating.
