Robin Sue Scarberry

January 12, 1954 — January 1, 2023

Robin Sue Evans Scarberry, of McLoud, OK departed this life, Sunday, January 1, 2023 at her home. But like any great story, Robin’s story began, January 12, 1954 in Tulsa, OK with her parents, Robert Franklin and Norma Sue (Francis) Evans.

She graduated from Richfield High School in Waco, TX and then went on to receive her Bachelor of Music degree, graduating Cum Laude from Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, OK. She continued her education journey, attending Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, OK, receiving her Master of Science in Occupational and Adult Education, graduating with Phi Kappa Phi Honors, in 1985.

Robin began her career at Gordon Cooper in 1980, eventually becoming the New Directions Coordinator, leading the Displaced Homemakers/Single Parents/Single Pregnant Women program, which focused on encouraging, training and assisting many women find jobs and means to support themselves. In 1997, Robin began working at Oklahoma Baptist University as the Director of Grants and Prospect Research, staying there until her retirement in 2018.

Robin was involved in many professional organizations: The National Association of Female Executives; National Adult Vocational Educational Association; and received the National Cartwright Hi-Noon Business and Professional Women for State Vocational Education Equity Award. Robin was also very involved in the Altrusa Club of Shawnee, serving in many capacities.

Robin’s story intersected with God’s story, when as a child, she made a life changing commitment to God through Jesus Christ. Her faith guided her through life. Through many challenges and opportunities, she saw God work and she expressed her faith in many different ways. She loved being a part of the Jubilation Ringers at University Baptist Church- traveling with the group, sharing the joy of music and bells. She was an accomplished flutist, pianist and singer.  She also had a passion for reading.

Robin married Terry Scarberry January 16, 1998, and their life together took them on many adventures together traveling to many places across the US.  She really loved going to the ocean and collecting seashells. They enjoyed going to the lake--really just spending time with family was her favorite thing to do. Traveling with her mother on several senior adult trips was a highlight for her.

Robin was a faithful member of Immanuel Baptist Church and loved her Sunday School class. They encouraged and helped her so much, particularly the last couple of years.

Robin was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Terry Scarberry; her son, Luke Freeman and wife Christina of Shawnee, OK; stepson, Dennis Scarberry and wife Angela of Goddard, KS; stepdaughter, Dr. Shawn Miller and husband Andy of Cookson, OK; her sister, Donna Shaw and husband Bryan of Cushing, OK; her brother, David Evans and wife Becky of Lochbuie, CO; grandchildren, Jack Miller, Matthew Miller and Ryan Hahn, Baxter Scarberry, Lacey Rutzer and Jasper Woods, and Eli Ashlock; and great-grandchildren, Jace and Josie Woods. Robin was also a favorite aunt to several nephews and nieces as well.

Robin was an inspiration to so many. She exhibited tremendous courage, strength and a love for God, others and life. Indeed, she lived her life to the fullest. She will be greatly missed, but we have this hope in Christ and we know we will see her again.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at Walker Funeral & Cremation Service on Wednesday, January 4th until 6pm and Thursday, January 5th from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm.
