Roy Vaden

June 7, 1938 — September 22, 2017

Roy was born on June 7, 1938 to Ollie and Alvin Vaden in Shawnee, OK, and passed away September 22, 2017 in Oklahoma City.Roy was the youngest of two children.  After the death of their mother, Roy and his sister Martha were raised by their maternal grandparents along with their beloved Uncle Paul Young. Roy, Martha and Paul all joined and were baptized at Union Baptist Church in Shawnee when they were kids.Roy and Martha moved to Denver, CO to live with their father and stepmother when they were in elementary school.  Roy later returned to Shawnee and graduated from Dunbar School where he became an outstanding athlete.  After graduation Roy joined the US Navy and served for four years.Roy returned to Denver, where he worked for the Denver Metro Bus company driving buses.  He later moved back to Oklahoma City and worked for an airport rental care service, picking up and delivering cars.  Roy loved to drive.Roy shared an apartment with Uncle Paul until Paul's death.  Roy enjoyed cooking and entertaining his friends. He was a "Free Spirit" and enjoyed being with friends, telling jokes and "talking trash".Roy leaves to cherish his memory a loving sister Martha Ann (Charles) Kirksey of Gardena, CA; three children, Rochelle Dillard, Rory Barnett and Reggie Barnett; 5 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, of Phoenix, Arizona; nieces and nephew in California; and a host of cousins and friends.Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Fairview Cemetery.
