This is the story of Sandra Lynn Hackney. Sandy was a wonderful woman that was loved, is missed and will always be cherished. Our NaNa, as she liked to be called by her grandchildren, was an amazing wife, mom, daughter, sister and friend. On August 27, 2021 at the age of 74, Sandy left her earthly home. Because of her relationship with Jesus, she is now healed and whole in His presence.
Sandy was born in Wichita Falls, Texas on July 13, 1947 to Cliff and Betty Ray. She graduated from Sunset High School in Dallas in 1965 where she was elected a Bissonnette (drill team) Squad Leader. During High School she began working at the Wynnewood Movie theater where she met the love of her life, Richard Hackney. She attended the University of North Texas for a year before she and Richard married in 1966. They went on to have three children, Michelle, Melissa and Mark. JCPenneys took them from Texas to Kansas and finally to Oklahoma. Shawnee became their home in June of 1983 and this is where they finished raising their family. Sandy worked for several banking institutions including BancFirst, MidFirst and First Federal Savings and Loan. Through all the moves and transitions, Sandy always put her family first. You could find her as the leader of a Brownie troop or cheering on her children and then grandchildren at sporting events. She prioritized family in everything, not perfectly, but persistently. Sandy was always willing to give unselfishly for her family.
She enjoyed spending time with family, playing tennis, shopping, gardening and was an avid reader of mysteries. She could often be found watching birds out the window or doting on any one of her cats. Sandy loved football season and rarely missed a chance to cheer on the Dallas Cowboys or OU Sooners. Some of her children's fondest memories are sitting around the piano listening to her play. She found delight in the Christmas holiday and enjoyed how the season brought the family together.
She is survived by her husband, Richard of Allen, Texas and her three children, Michelle (and Steve) Wallace of Shawnee, OK, Melissa (and Brian) Warden of Phoenix, AZ, and Mark (and Cristina) Hackney of Prosper, TX; as well as seven grandchildren, Morgan and Emma Wallace; Alyssa, Kai and Noah Warden; and Haylee and Hayes Hackney; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister, Pam (and Ronnie) Banner and brother, Rudy Ray.
