Shawnee resident Norma Sue Evans, 95, passed away Sunday, January 26, 2020 at her home.
Sue was born December 30, 1924, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, to Thomas Lafayette Francis and Grace Lee (Cumpton) Francis. She graduated from Will Rogers High School in Tulsa, OK, and received her Bachelor of Music Degree from Tulsa University. While at the university, she was a member of Delta Phi Gamma, a chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma; Sigma Alpha Iota; and Lantern and Phi Gamma Kappa - honorary scholastic organizations. She married Robert F. Evans in 1946 and they were married for 63 years. Mrs. Evans taught music in schools in Kansas, Oklahoma, Illinois, Louisiana, and Texas. After her early teaching career, Sue chose to stay home, caring for her children and family as well as teaching private piano lessons. She was very artistic and enjoyed cross-stitching, painting, sewing and quilting, and arts and crafts. Sue was an avid reader, wrote poetry, and loved music. She was an accomplished singer and pianist. Mrs. Evans was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.
" She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Evans; her parents; her brother, Fay Francis; sister, 'Joy Allen; and infant brother, Perry Francis. Survivors include three children, Robin Scarberry and husband Terry of McLoud, OK; Donna Shaw and husband Bryan of Cushing, OK; David Evans and wife Becky of Lochbuie, CO; seven grandchildren, Luke Freeman and Christina Ashlock; Shawn and Andy Miller; Dennis and Angela Scarberry; Robert and Jamie Shaw; David and Brennan Shaw; Mandy and Mike Roper; Adam Meehan and Kyle Mumford Ham; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Clyde Williams of Owasso, OK; and many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 1, 2020, at Walker Funeral Service Chapel with Bryan Shaw and Dr. Todd Fisher officiating. Burial will be at Dale Cemetery.
