Thelma "Maxine" New

Thelma "Maxine" (Smith) New was born on August 29, 1925 to William Henry and Velda Irene (Calk) Smith in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Brother William Ned and sister Joyce completed the family and they lived in various locations in Oklahoma and California. She met and married Carlton B. New in 1945 and they were soon blessed with daughter Linda J. and then son Greg A. and later, daughter Angela J. Maxine was a career homemaker and mother of the highest caliber. She was an active member of various Baptist churches over the years and taught many Sunday school classes among other acts of service. In later years she enjoyed any opportunity to socialize with family and friends, especially if she could talk them into playing a game of chicken-foot dominoes or cards. Thelma passed from this life on Monday, July 11, 2022, at the age of 96 years, 10 months and 12 days. She is survived by daughter, Linda Wheat, son-in-law, Archie Wheat, son, Greg New and daughter-in-law, Olivia New, daughter, Angela Ross, and son-in-law, Robert Ross; grandchildren, David Wheat, Stephanie Jones and husband Jeremy, Robin Nation and husband Chad, Cory New, Alejandra Gonzales, Amy Bagwell and husband Marcus, Rebecca Chapman and husband Zack, Melissa Hancock, six great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral ceremony will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 15, 2022, at the Walker Funeral Chapel.
