Tom grew up in Shawnee spending many summers on his grandparent's farm near Sulphur. After graduating from Shawnee High School in 1966 he entered the Army in August that year. He spent three years on active duty with a one- year-tour in Vietnam. After active duty he transferred to the Oklahoma National Guard and also began working as an aircraft mechanic at Tinker Air Force Base. He attended Seminole Junior College receiving an associate degree. He retired from Tinker after 36 years. He started a tractor service and also worked part time at Walmart during retirement.
Tom considered himself an outdoorsman. He loved many things: trail riding on his horses or mules, his Harley, fishing, watching history, and fishing or animal TV programs. He loved his family and the friends he considered family. He loved all his pet dogs, from the Bloodhounds to his special PTSD service dog, McTavish. He enjoyed cooking and grilling food for family and friends. He was proud of his Chickasaw heritage. He was proud to have been an American soldier. He was a faithful member of Rock Creek Baptist Church and was proud to serve the Lord there.
Tom is survived by his wife, Sarah of the home, daughter Jillian DeJoseph and fiance, Tim Wickerd of Shawnee, his grandsons, Hunter Campbell of Shawnee and Gino DeJoseph of Norman, brother and sister-in-law, John and Mary Campbell of Oklahoma City and many nieces and nephews, Melinda Collins-Switch and her family and special friends Josh and Carina Napier and their children.
Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 12 at Rock Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Napier officiating.
