Venus Diane Blakemore

June 21, 1957 — May 16, 2017

Venus Diane (Lowe) Blakemore departed this life on May 16, 2017 at her home. She was born June 21, 1957, to Ozelle & Jerry Lowe in Bridgeport, Texas. She attended the first two years of elementary school in Decatur, Texas, where her father pastored a church and attended Decatur Baptist College.  She graduated from Grove Elementary school, and from Shawnee High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Club, Pep Club, and helped establish the “exclusive” Nertz Society.She married George Stanley Blakemore at Immanuel Baptist Church on June 26, 1976. She attended the University of Oklahoma, The University of Texas at Arlington, and earned a Bachelor’s of Arts degree from Oklahoma Baptist University. She taught elementary school at Grove and North Rock Creek.  In addition, she worked with children in Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and in musical programs. Those left to mourn her loss are sons Cameron Scott Blakemore of Oklahoma City, and Kendall Grant Blakemore of New York City; grandchildren Corrin, Camille, Caellan Blakemore and Tatum Smith; her mother, Ozelle Scrutchins and step-father Bob Scrutchins; sisters Tammy Green and Amanda Jarantowski and brother, Mark Lowe, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 23 at Immanuel Baptist Church with Dr. Todd Fisher officiating.
