Vera Lorene Long

Vera Lorene Long, a beloved matriarch, passed away on November 29, 2024 at the age of 96. She was born on January 9, 1928, in Shawnee, Oklahoma, to John F. Beasley and Mary Elizabeth Rose. Vera lived a life rich in love, laughter, and resilience.

For 16 years, Vera dedicated herself to her role as a custodian at Tecumseh Public Schools until her retirement. Her strong work ethic and commitment to her job were matched only by her devotion to family. Vera was known for her determination and strong-willed nature, characteristics that inspired those around her.

Family was at the heart of Vera's life. She was fiercely proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, often referring to them as her greatest accomplishment. Vera delighted in spending time with her loved ones, enjoying Sunday dinners that resonated with warmth and joy. Her passion for family gatherings was matched by her love for fun activities such as fishing, playing wahoo and dominoes, and sharing laughter that echoed through her home.

Vera is survived by her son, Terry Allen Long and wife Beth of Shawnee, OK; her daughter, Diana Elizabeth Jacobs of Brooksville, OK; her grandsons, James Alldredge and wife Laura of Shawnee, OK; Darin and Aaron Richardson of Enid, OK; Steven Schulze and wife Jamie of Goldsby, OK; Nicholas Long and wife Jamie of McLoud, OK; her granddaughters, Melissa Schulze Nettles of the home; Jennifer Garroutte and husband James of Bethel Acres, OK;  Shandra Hargrave of Blanchard, OK; and Janie Long of McLoud, OK; as well as numerous great-grandchildren, including Garrett, Logan, Cori, Cody, Sawyer, Thomas, Hannah, Hailey, Hunter, Noah, Milo, Skarlett, Isaiah, and Micha, along with great-great-grandchildren Mackenzie and Braxton.

Vera was predeceased by her parents, John and Elizabeth Beasley; her sister, Lucille Kinnamon; her brother, Virgil Beasley; her husband, ET "Ed" Long; and her daughter, Pamela Thompson. 

A funeral service celebrating Vera’s life will be held on December 6, 2024, at 2:00 PM, at Walker Funeral & Cremation Service. Burial to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
