Vernon L. Markwell

Vernon L. Markwell, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend passed from this life at the age of 90 on Saturday, March 26, 2022 in Shawnee, OK. He was born to Harve and Zeffie Markwell on Jan 21, 1932 in Meeker, OK. He married Tommy Gail Lewis on March 25, 1951 in Shawnee, OK.

At the young age of 16, he attended Auction School in Ft. Smith, Arkansas and began his auction career helping his brother, Elvan. Vernon’s other business adventures included: driving gravel and milk trucks for his brother, Harvey Markwell, employment as a draftsman for Jonco Pipe Co, Murphy Pipe and Engineering, both of Shawnee, OK and Arrow Commander of Oklahoma City, OK. Vernon ultimately followed his passion of the Auction and Real Estate business establishing Markwell Auction and Real Estate, Meeker, Ok. In later years, he worked with Armitage Equipment until the age of 87.

Vernon was a member of the Church of Christ for 75 years and served as a deacon and an elder at the 10^th and Shawnee St Church of Christ and Aydelotte Church of Christ.

Survivors include son, Randy Markwell, daughter, Debbie Flowers and husband, Randy, daughter, Lisa Armitage and husband, Mark; grandchildren: Andrea Householter and husband, Mark, Ryan Flowers and wife, Heather, Justin Armitage and wife, Sylvia, Kyle Flowers and wife, Lindsey, Brad Armitage and wife, Lindsey, and Leslie Wilson and husband, Anthony; great-grandchildren: Tyler Armitage, Brooklyn Warner, Marlee Flowers, Maddex Flowers, Nora Flowers, Kinley Householter, Willow Armitage, Bryleigh Householter, and Leo Flowers.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Tommy Gail, an infant son, Larry Markwell, his parents, Harve and Zeffie Markwell, brothers, Elvan, Ernest and Harvey Markwell and sister, Lola Grubaugh.

A funeral ceremony for Vernon will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at Aydelotte Church of Christ located at intersection Hwy 18 and Hazel Dell Road, Shawnee, OK. Those assisting with ceremony include: Harold Gibson, Dale Markwell, Mike Wood and Terry Newell. Burial will follow at New Hope Cemetery in Meeker, OK. Casket bearers will be: Ryan Flowers, Kyle Flowers, Brad Armitage, Tyler Armitage, Mark Householter, and Anthony Wilson. A family visitation will be held on Monday, March 28^th from 6-8pm at Walker Funeral & Cremation Service.
