Shawnee resident Walter G. King, 83, passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at his home. Memorial services will be 3:00 PM Saturday, August 14, 2021 at Immanuel Baptist Church with Dr. Todd Fisher officiating. Walter was born September 6, 1937 in Detroit, Michigan to Walter L. King and Clarabelle (Smart) King. He graduated from Mackenzie High School (Detroit) in 1955 and immediately enlisted in the military. He served 23 years as a Weapons Specialist and retired in 1978 as a Senior Master Sergeant. He served four tours in Southeast Asia, Thailand, Vietnam, and Laos. He was awarded many medals including the Meritorious Service, Silver Star, and Bronze Star. After military retirement he was employed by General Dynamics/Lockheed Martin in Technical Publications on the F-16 program retiring in December 1994. He was a successful emu farmer and loved raising and caring for animals. From 1995 to 2009 he worked various jobs as being idle was not for him. He visited 31 countries and all 50 states and lived in 11 states. He swam with dolphins, mushed a dog sled team, drove to Alaska and fished the great Kenai River. He visited all the major National Parks and Civil War sites. He loved his country and was thankful to be able to serve. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son: Danny King, daughter-in-law: Pam King, grandson: Dylan King, brother: Terry King, and sister: Janice Cronenwett. He is survived by his wife: Carlene Fisher King, son: Butch King and wife Dawn of Weatherford, TX, son: Brad King and wife Zoe of Springtown, TX, their mother: Kathryn King of Weatherford, TX, sister: Patricia Heatley of Cape Coral, FL, Eric and Melissa Fisher of Leander, TX, Todd and Jamy Fisher of Shawnee, 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
