Dwyane Dennis

Wilburn Dwyane Dennis went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, September 18th, 2024. Dwyane was born July 26, 1937 in Abilene, Texas, to parents Wilburn and Beulah (Dearing) Dennis. Dwyane was raised in Texas and Oklahoma and found his calling in life as a minister at a very young age. Dwyane delivered his first sermon at just 13 years old. Following God's plan for him, Dwyane traveled and spread the word of God in many churches across the United States, including the Oakcrest Church of Christ in Oklahoma City, OK, the University Church of Christ in Canyon, TX, the Broadway Church of Christ in Paducah, KY, the Baytown Church of Christ in Baytown, TX, and, most recently, the Central Church of Christ in Shawnee, OK. Dwyane loved visiting with and encouraging people from all walks of life to accept God as the one true living God.

Dwyane married the love of his life, Marcia Ann Todd on June 23, 1959 in Tipton, OK. Dwyane and Marcia were happily married for 65 years and raised three children. Together, they enjoyed traveling all over the United States; and also Spain, Portugal, and Canada. Dwyane had a special interest in geography and could often be found reading National Geographic magazines or studying an Atlas with a fresh yellow highlighter. Dwyane was also a skilled amateur photographer and his work often included the landscapes from his travels. In addition to his love of geography, Dwyane enjoyed researching and learning about his genealogy and ancestry. He and Marcia delighted in opening their home for gatherings with family and friends. During these get-togethers, he was often found playing cards or dominoes, where he took special joy in winning a game of Forty Two. Dwyane loved Christmas traditions: decorating the family tree; searching for the perfect outfits to surprise Marcia; and being the first to say “Christmas Eve Gift” to the family in hopes of getting something extra.

Dwyane is preceded in death by his parents, Wilburn and Beulah Dennis; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bud and Corinne Todd; and many dogs including his 3 beloved Scottish Terriers.

Dwyane is survived by his wife, Marcia Dennis of Oklahoma City, OK; son, Todd Dennis and wife Monica of Waxhaw, NC; daughter, Sherrie Horton of Oklahoma City, OK; daughter Marcia Gloekler and husband Mike of Hixson, TN; brother, Gary Dennis and wife Beth of Lubbock, TX; sister-in-law Earline Gregory of Cache, OK, 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and many great friends.

A memorial service honoring Dwyane's life will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Central Church of Christ 301 N Bell Ave, Shawnee, OK 74801.
